Shemot (Exod) 38:21-31

21        This is the sum of items regarding HaMishkan (the dwelling place) HaMishkan (the dwelling place) of the testimony on the basis that the mouth of Moshe had appointed. They were acting in the service of the Leviyim (Levites) by the hand of Ithamar (a coast of palms) the son of Aaron (bringer of light) the priest.

22        and in the shadow of El (Bezalel) the son of flame (Uri) the son of cleft (Hur) of the branch of praise (Yahudah) fabricated all that YHWH commanded Moshe.

23        Together with them, Oholiab (Father’s house) son of Ahisamach (brother of support), of the tribe of Dan (a judge). These were the craftsmen, designers, and embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.

24        The approximate amount of the gold from the wave offering used for all the work on the sanctuary was 29 talents ($19,140,000.00) and 730 shekels ([with a gold shekel =$220.00 each] making the total approx $160600.00), according to the sanctuary shekel. שקל (and the total sum would be approximately $19,300,600.00 based on the U.S. dollar of today)

25        The silver obtained from those of the community who were counted in the census was 100 talents and 1,775 shekels (equaling approximately 7, 550 pounds or 110104.16666666665 troy ounces of silver whose price in dollars at this moment 3-14-07 is $12.78 giving us a total of  approx. $1,407,131.10) , according to the sanctuary shekel.

26        One beka per person, that is, half a shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, from everyone who had crossed over to those counted, twenty years old or more, a total of 603,550 men (approx $2.33 each).

27        The 100 talents of silver were used to cast the bases for the sanctuary and for the curtain-- 100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent for each base.

28        They used the 1,775 shekels to make the hooks for the posts, to overlay the tops of the posts, and to make their bands.

29        The bronze from the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels. (Approx 5,300 pounds of bronze at $1.41 per pound with a total of $7,473.00)

30        They used it to make the bases for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]), the bronze altar with its bronze grating and all its utensils,

31        the bases for the surrounding enclosed courtyard and those for its entrance and all the tent pegs for the tabernacle and those for the surrounding enclosed courtyard.

CHAPTER 39

1          From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary. They also made sacred garments for Aharon as YHWH commanded Moshe.

2          They made the ephod of gold and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and of finely twisted linen.

3          They hammered out thin sheets and cut strands of gold to be worked into the blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, which required the work of a skilled craftsman.

4          They also made shoulder pieces for the ephod which allowed it to be joined and these were attached to two of its corners.

5          Its skillfully woven waistband was like it and was made of one piece with the ephod. It also was made with gold and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn and with finely twisted linen, just as YHWH had ordered Moshe.

6          They mounted the onyx or beryl stones in gold filigree settings and engraved them like a seal with the names of B’nei Yisrael.

7          Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of remembrance for B’nei Yisrael, as YHWH commanded Moshe.

8          A skilled craftsman fashioned the breastplate. They made it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and of finely twisted linen.

9          It was square, a span (approx 9 inches) long and a span (approx 9 inches) wide and it was folded double.

10        Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there was a ruby, a topaz and a beryl;

11        in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald;

12        in the third row a jacinth (leshem, perhaps a jacinth), an agate and an amethyst;

13        in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper stone (a type of quartz). They were mounted in gold filigree settings.

14        There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of B’nei Yisrael, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes. *

15        For the breastplate they made braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.

16        They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings which they fastened to two of the corners of the breastplate.

17        They fastened the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastplate,

18        and the other ends of the chains to the two settings which attached them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.

19        They made two gold rings and attached them to the other two corners of the breastplate on the inside edge next to the ephod.

20        Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam that was just above the waistband of the ephod.

21        They tied the rings of the breastplate to the rings of the ephod with blue cord. This connected it to the waistband so that the breastplate would not swing out from the ephod, exactly as YHWH had commanded Moshe.

22        They made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, the work of a weaver.

23        The weaver made an opening in the center of the robe like the opening of a collar and put a binding around this opening so that it would not tear.

24        They made pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen and placed them around the hem of the robe.

25        And they made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates.

26        The bells and pomegranates were placed alternately, a bell, a pomegranate, a bell, etc., all around the hem of the robe to be worn for ministering as YHWH commanded Moshe.

27        For Aharon and his sons, they made tunics of fine linen, also the work of a skilled weaver.

28        They also made the turban of fine linen, the linen headbands and the undergarments of finely twisted linen.

29        The sash was of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, by the hand of a skilled embroiderer, as YHWH instructed Moshe.

30        They made a glistening plate out of pure gold, the qodesh crown and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: “SET APART TO L’YHWH” (QODESH L’YHWH).

31        Then they fastened a twisted blue cord to it to be used to attach it to the turban, as YHWH commanded Moshe.

32        So all the work on the tabernacle (Mishkan), the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]), was completed. B’nei Yisrael did everything just as YHWH commanded Moshe.

33        Then they brought the tabernacle (Mishkan) to Moshe, they also brought the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, boards, crossbars, posts and bases;

34        the covering of ram skins dyed red, the covering of hides of an indeterminate animal and the shielding curtain;

35        the ark of the Testimony with its poles and the atonement cover (kapporeth);

36        the table with all its articles and the bread of the Presence (lechem hapaniym);

37        the pure gold lamp-stand (menorah) with its row of lamps and all its accessories and the oil for the light;

38        the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense and the curtain for the entrance to the tent;

39        the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin with its stand;

40        the curtains of the enclosed courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the enclosed courtyard; the ropes and tent pegs for the enclosed courtyard; all the furnishings for the tabernacle (Mishkan), the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]);

41        and the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Aharon the priest and the garments for his sons when serving as priests.

42        B’nei Yisrael had done all the work just as YHWH had commanded Moshe.

43        Moshe inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as YHWH had commanded. So Moshe blessed them.

CHAPTER 40

1          Then YHWH said to Moshe:

2          Set up the tabernacle (Mishkan), the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]), on the first day of the first month.

3          Place the ark (aron) of the Testimony in it and shield the ark (aron) with the curtain.

4          Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the menorah (lamp-stand) and set up its lamps.

5          Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.

6          "Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle (Mishkan), the Tent of Meeting;

7          place the basin between the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) and the altar and put water in it.

8          Set up the enclosed courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.

9          Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle (Mishkan) and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings and it will be holy (set-apart qodesh).

10        Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar and it will be most holy (qodesh qadashiym).

11        Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.

12        You are to bring Aharon and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) and wash them with water.

13        Then dress Aharon in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve Me as priest (Kohen).

14        Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.

15        Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve Me as priests (Koheniym). Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come."

16        Moshe did everything just as YHWH commanded him.

17        So the tabernacle (Mishkan) was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year.

18        When Moshe set up the tabernacle (Mishkan) and put the bases in place, erected the boards, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts.

19        Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle (Mishkan) and put the covering over the tent, just as YHWH had ordered him.

20        He took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it.

21        Then he brought the ark (aron) into the tabernacle (Mishkan) and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the Testimony, as YHWH commanded him.

22        Moshe placed the table in the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) on the north side of the tabernacle (Mishkan) outside the curtain

23        and set out the bread on it before YHWH, as YHWH commanded him.

24        He placed the menorah (lamp-stand) in the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle (Mishkan)

25        and set up the lamps before, as YHWH commanded him.

26        Moshe placed the gold altar (Mizbeach [miz-bay’-akh) in the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) in front of the curtain

27        and burned fragrant incense on it, as YHWH commanded him.

28        Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle (Mishkan).

29        He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle (Mishkan), the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]), and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as YHWH commanded him.

30        He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) and the altar and put water in it for washing,

31        and Moshe and Aharon and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet.

32        They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) or approached the altar, just as YHWH commanded Moshe.

33        Then Moshe set up the enclosed courtyard around the tabernacle (Mishkan) and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the enclosed courtyard. And so Moshe accomplished the work.

34        Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]), and the glory of YHWH filled the tabernacle (Mishkan).

35        Moshe could not enter the Tent of Meeting (Ohel Moed [o`-hel mow-ade`]) because the cloud had settled upon it and the glory of YHWH filled the tabernacle (Mishkan).

36        In all the journeys of B’nei Yisrael, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle (Mishkan), they would break camp and move on;

37        but if the cloud did not lift, they did not break camp or set out until the day it lifted.

38        So the cloud of YHWH was over the tabernacle (Mishkan) by day and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel (Kohl Bayith Yisrael) during all their travels.

There were also two Shoham stones on the shoulders of the Ephod. According to Shemot (Exod) 28:30, the Breastplate was also to contain the Uriym & Thummiym (Hebrew: אוּרִים וְתּוּמי; "Light and Perfection"). These were used to seek counsel of Elohiym .
