Focus on Holy

‘YHWH’ addressed the sons of Aharon about their remaining ‘set apart’ which is translated as ‘holy’ in most English texts. These seemingly obscure and uncelebrated passages may, at closer inspection, yield some unexpected benefits. For the record let’s include the first part of this communication where the direct object of these commands is defined.

Vayikra (Lev) 21:1

1        And YHWH said unto Moshe, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aharon, and command them…

Immediately after this intro, the word ‘priest’ does not occur in the Hebrew but the possessive endings indicating they, their or of them are often translated as ‘Priest or Priests’.

A thorough studied reading of all these instructions would be enlightening, but for brevity we will look today at only these few verses.

5        "'(Priests) must not shave their heads or cut off the extremities of their beards or mar their bodies.

6        They must remain set apart to the Mighty and must not profane the name of their Mighty. Because they present the offerings made to YHWH, the bread of their Mighty, they are to remain always set apart.

7        "'They must not marry women defiled by prostitution or divorced from their husbands, in that he is set apart to the Mighty One of them.

As we read these and subsequent passages, the specifics for their being set apart are both abundant and pervasive but the ‘focus’ here is, do they apply to any of us alive on this speck of dust today? There are those who claim to be ‘sons’ of Aharon and even confirm their claims with DNA analysis.

So wouldn’t it seem that, IF these commands are valid today, they, the sons, are entirely bound to fully observe and submit to all of them? If, however, this chain of observance is broken, it is no longer a chain. The scriptures make clear that anyone refusing submission to Yah’s commands is cutoff from Israel . Renegades are not able to pass on citizenship to their offspring because they have nothing to pass on. Blood alone is not sufficient.

This begs a question of devastating proportions, are there any ‘HOLY’ ones on this planet today? If so, would they please step forward so that we can follow their lead and pray they offer our willing sacrifices to YHWH. If there are none, what must we do? What did Abraham do? Did he have the inheritance passed to him by his fathers? How then was he made righteous and set apart? Could it be??? Could ‘Faithfulness’ be the key to the kingdom? Well that is so simple BUT who among us is able to become fully faithful? The authors of the Greek texts, for their own reasons, preferred to mistranslate ‘AMAN’ in Gen. 15:6 as ‘he believed, rather than ‘he was faithful’ but this verse, now successfully perverted, proves the power of submission. Faithful priests may not be found but our faithfulness, righteousness and our being set apart, ‘HOLY’ are an option, because we do have choice, just as did Abraham.

Be you holy, as I am holy, says YHWH.
