So Why Count?

The English translators have named this next book, ‘Numbers’. Hebrew speaking adherents refer to this as ‘B’Midbar’ which may be translated as wilderness, pastures, uninhabited lands or at the same time can indicate the mouth, as an organ of speech.

These instructions were delivered by mouth in an uninhabited land and concerned themselves with the importance and necessity of numbering the able men of the nation for service in war.

Here is one possible translation of the first three verses. For those who demand crystal clarity, consult other translations. Even better, if you are fluent in Hebrew, please do reference the authentic source material.

1,       YHWH spoke to Moshe in the Ciynay (or the B’Midbar, a wilderness of thorns) in the tent of appointment on the first day of the second month in the second year of their delivery out of the land of Double Straits . Commanding:

2,       “Take up a head count of the whole assembly of the sons of Yisrael according to their tribe by the house of their fathers, by numbering each name of all the males by counting every one of them.

3,       Include all sons who have reached or are above the age of twenty years, all who come forth to amass for war in Yisrael shall be numbered by you and Aharon.”

There are those who are all but drowned in mainstream ‘new think’ who, when hearing this, might be quick to say, ‘Well God already knows MY name and He has already counted ME’. How arrogant, inconsiderate, inaccurate and even more sadly, way too common.

What I call ‘New Think’ is that mythos or commonly shared persuasions that underpin this cotemporary pluralistic society. Most of us have not only come to see its major flaw and the power it can wield but now see and fear its very open warfare with a people who hold any conflicting ethos. The common trait of all established nations is one very dangerous delusion. Above all they really believe they have the right to establish any code of law they might see fit. Conversely, they can enforce their laws with out regard of a higher authority. Torah is anathema to them. People who honor YHWH’s authority stand as potential enemies of the State.

If what I have outlined is at all true, we very well may be candidates for a new holocaust, wouldn’t it then be wise to actively find safety in this wilderness? Hmmm maybe it is time to stand and be counted.

Should we who love YHWH and wish to be obedient to His Law join with one another for moral strength? Wouldn’t it be foolish to attempt to hide our beliefs and expect Yah to somehow carry the burden of personal responsibility? When has He ever come to the aid of an unwilling people. Your comments may help all of us to endure.
