Parashat Vayikra CHAPTER 1 VERSE 1.
This is called
‘Leviticus’ in the Greek Scriptures because the ‘church fathers’
had to assume that most of it was directed toward the priestly tribe of
Levi. The Hebrew correctly refers to this book as ‘Vayikra’. The word ‘Vayikra’ is a dynamic statement with an earth-shaking significance. And He (YHWH) called out! Quoting the King James,
Leviticus 1:1
And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, ‘Vayikra’1:1 And YHWH called out to Moshe, He commanded him from out of the tent of appointment, saying, What have we found? I see a few important facts exposed here. ONE The Mighty, who formed the heavens and the earth, who gave substance and life to both man and beast, who has been existent before time or light or mass, chooses to call out to a fellow mortal, an earthling man. TWO His audible declaration is heard emanating from the ‘Ohel’, called the tent of appointment, which refers to the entire structure where in the House of Houses and the Holy of Holies was lovingly enshrined. This was revealed in last weeks study) THREE commanding … The All Mighty has a will and a purpose and is about to relate to us grubby earthling types His requirements. |
